ROWENA WISE
BAD THINGS FEEL GOOD
22TWENTY RECORDS

It takes certain kind of bravery (actually, quite a bit of it) to go the singer songwriter way. Not only do you have to have an abundance of both singing and songwriting quality (add arranging and sometimes production skills), but you also have to surmount all the boundaries of basically doing it alone (help or no help from others).
With some singer/songwriters, such demands bring serious problems, something that Melbourne, Australia’s Rowena Wise seems to have overcome with considerable ease on her second album, Bad Things Feel Good. Not does only Wise have an excellent voice and equally excellent songwriting skills (melody or lyrics, take your pick), but her sense of when to bring in a wider arrangement spectrum or when to only to sit down with her guitar or piano is almost impeccable here. And as is the case only with those that deserve the top spot, her lyrical capabilities match the quality of her music. Excellent.
