PRISM SHORES
SOFTEST ATTACK
MERITORIO RECORDS

“Paperback Writer,” one of the greatest singles by The Beatles, never found its way one of their regular albums, but it did create one of the often underrated but at the same time greatly appreciated genres – power pop.
They say that key elements of power pop include strong catchy melodies and energetic guitar riffs, among others. Based on this, it seems Montreal’s Prism Shores are taking these elements that usually describe this genre to their hearts (rightly so) and turned it into the title of their latest album – Softest Attack.
The 12 tracks here have exactly that softest attack – and more. We’ve got strong catchy melodies and hooks you can remember, clear vocals with harmonies to boot, those energetic guitar riffs (with quite a bit of shoegaze edge added, but then that is power pop offshoot in many ways), and upbeat tempos (most of the time) that work, with the usual power pop themes added but done in a smart manner that evade kitsch elements. Essentially Prism Shores apply the softest attack in all the right ways.
