POST DEATH SOUNDTRACK
IN ALL MY NIGHTMARES I AM ALONE
INDEPENDENT

In All My Nightmares I Am Alone is Vancouver’s Post Death Soundtrack’s fifth studio album, and their first since 2024’s Veil Lifter. The band is now more or less a solo project for original member Stephen Moore. In All My Nightmares I Am Alone is a collection of odds and sods (some new and never heard before), former co-member Kenneth Buck can be heard on a couple of tracks. However, this seems to be a project for Moore to clear house before he embarks on his next project, He Is Me. This collection of songs is, for the most part, interesting and never boring. The music is post punk rock, mixed with a lot of genres. It is alternative in the truest sense of the word. But there are a lot of different sounds throughout the album, so it is actually difficult to categorize.
It is a startling album to get through, however, due to subject matters, layered sounds, and overall unsettling vibes. Morse does not shy away from difficult topics or stories. The opening, and quite frankly scary, song “TREMENS” takes the listener through DT ‘s withdrawal from substance abuse. Then there is the beautiful “SOMETHING STIRS” but still packs a hell of a punch with the lyrics. It is easy to be lulled into the beautiful melody before you realize that whatever is stirring is best left alone. “START THIS OVER” is a very melodic, acoustic rock song with great lyrics. Then there is the wonderful “WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?”, which borders on being humorous in some ways and very dark in others.
The cover versions are very interesting. “VENUS IN FURS” by Post Death Soundtrack is much darker and much creepier than The Velvet Underground ever recorded. And the cover of Tom Waits’ “WHAT’S HE BUILDING IN THERE?” is very cool. Again, as disturbing as Waits’s version was, it is nothing compared to this version. The backing vocals and layered sound turns the song into a radio play. And then, less than a minute later, we are back to the wonderful acoustic “OVERSOUL”. And “SONG FOR BONZAI” is more Fleetwood Mac than Nine Inch Nails. And that is the treat of this album.
In All My Nightmares I Am Alone is an album that is all over the place, and very hard to pigeonhole, which is a very good thing. Moore sounds like he is doing exactly what he wants to do, and bringing it all together under one roof, or rather album. These songs may not have fit anywhere before, or are neglected B-sides, but they sound right at home with this compilation. With 24 tracks (some are very short), there is a lot to digest and make sense of with this album. It requires at least three spins before even beginning to understand Moore and what he is trying to communicate. If you go beyond the scary goth image and horror film references, you will discover an artist that produced complex, layered sounds that defined classification.
