MIKE GALE
THANKS FOR ALWAYS WAVING
INDEPENDENT
Mike Gale, singer-songwriter from Southampton, England has been making some seemingly unassuming and quiet, but at the same time excellent music for quite a while now.
Actually, his latest album, Thanks For Always Waving, is no less than his 20th! Yet, again, he is able to come up with some truly gentle, melodic stuff that just keeps creeping under the listener’s skin with such an ease, that you only begin noticing it when you put this album on repeat.
As was the case with previous Gale releases, he uses the folk only as a starting base, building some nifty pop melodies upon it, combining elements of his love of Paul Simon with the post-twee stuff like The Clientele, with intricate production and mastering touches from Todd Tobias who did the same for the likes of Guided By Voices.
But it is Gale’s melodic touch and strong songwriting that dominate this album with exactly the right feel for the ensuing Second Summer.
