Leap Year

These days, the interpretation of what consists of an EP has become quite an elastic thing. It can run from a single (albeit long) song to something that lasts as a full-fledged album for some other artists.
A two-song affair falls somewhere in there, and while some might consider it too brief, if it is musically substantial, it can really be a sign whether an artist is worth your time or not.
In the case of British-based Canadian singer songwriter Laura Reznek, her two-song EP Leap Year actually shows more than some other artists can offer on an album. Actually, both the title song and “Open Season” are a sort of continuation of her 2021 album Agrimony, which along with “Open Season” will be featured in a contemporary dance show Reznek created with choreographer Sophie Dow.
The strength of this EP lies in an almost meticulous song construction and subtle arrangements into which Reznek foiled the two songs and their lyrics here. Definitely makes you search her other releases, as is often the purpose of EPs anyway.
