KMFDM
ENEMY
METROPOLIS RECORDS

German electronic and industrial rock pioneers KMFDM are back, balancing the stylistic blend of their signature sound while invigorating it with their 24th album, ENEMY.
Sascha Konietzko and Lucia Cifarelli are backed by Andy Selway on drums and the band’s most recent addition, Tidor Nieddu, who delivers plenty of powerful, guitar-driven riffs throughout the album. His contributions are especially noticeable in songs such as “VAMPYR” and “GUN QUARTER SUE.”
The politically charged title track, “ENEMY,” features a chorus of: “Uprise, resurrect, make noise, weaponize, unified in a world that wants us quiet/We are enemy,” delivered by Konietzko. A rebel anthem, if there ever was one, presented in classic KMFDM fashion.
“YOU” marks the songwriting debut of 17-year-old Annabella Konietzko, Sascha and Lucia’s daughter. Its pop-style vocals, coupled with synth-driven tones, make it a standout track on the album.
Various other styles are featured as well, taking brief departures from the heavy industrial metal sound. “OUTERNATIONAL INTERVENTION” offers a space-themed vibe, while “STRAY BULLET 2.0” presents a reggae-style reinterpretation of the original track from their 2007 album, Symbols. The production sounds absolutely flawless even through mediocre laptop speakers, so do yourself a favor and give this album a listen on the highest-quality sound system you have — you’ll appreciate it even more.
Overall, ENEMY remains consistent with the KMFDM concept while showcasing impressive versatility in sound.
