SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: KASSI VALAZZA – KASSI VALAZZA KNOWS NOTHING

Kassi Valazza

Kassi Valazza Knows Nothing
Fluff & Gravy Records

Portland, Oregon artist Kassi Valazza defies the title of her latest album – Kassi Valazza Knows Nothing. She actually knows quite a bit it seems, and one of the things she definitely knows is how to show those skeptical listeners who think there is not much variation in Americana/roots music, that there is so much you can do within the genre if you have the capabilities and know how to do so.

Valazza starts the album with “Room In The Sky”, which sounds like The Band fronted by a female singer (with a good voice), switches to singer-songwriter mode on “Rapture”, moves to modern day country akin to Kacey Musgraves on “Corners”, covers ‘standard’ country on “Smile, and visits quite a few other places throughout the album.

Yes throughout, she doesn’t make a single wrong or weak move, with her songwriting and vocals in some form of tasteful arrangements. Valazza knows quite a few things, for sure.
