JOYER
ON THE OTHER END OF THE LINE
JULIA’S WAR RECORDINGS

Is alternative/indie rock, as it was known during its prime in the late ‘90s, a dying breed? Not if you ask brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, the duo known artistically as Joyer, who have been something of a cult favourite in the East Coast DIY scene.
From their earliest self-titled album in 2017, up to On the Other End of the Line, their latest release, they have not given up on challenging the themes and musical concepts that could be considered indie or alternative rock. Strong melody lines are dominated by guitars and great vocals, with everything else becoming an embellishment of the key elements.
In that respect, this concept doesn’t change much here, which is a very good thing, because the Sullivan brothers have further developed their knack for a good melody, as well as how to effectively combine the musical palette they have been using so far with other elements. All of this makes their music a few notches better and, well, even more of a treat to listen to than it already was.
