Jerry Leger has been quietly making a name for himself and for The Cowboy Junkies’ Latent Recordings record label, that has quietly been recently taking on a louder form, deservedly at that.

It was time to continue the trend, so what a better way to do it than coming up with a covers EP that goes under the title of Latent Uncovers. Leger chose four songs he calls hidden gems, and it is quite a spread, which includes Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Tweedy (via Mavis Staples), and David Bowie.

And while “The Law” and “Janine” might not be the best-known Cohen and Bowie songs, and the Tweedy one was originally written for Mavis Staples, “What Goes On” might not have been so hidden, as it is probably one of Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground fans’ favorites, particularly live.

Still, there is one common thread that Leger brings to these songs here – that is his very personal take on the songs, giving them all that roots touch that characterizes Leger’s own songs.
