SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: EASY STAR ALL-STARS – ZIGGY STARDUB

The name of the collective involved in recording this album, a reggae tribute to David Bowie’s legendary album Ziggy Stardust, might include the word easy in its name, but recording a series of tribute albums, including this one is much more than just setting the original songs to a reggae rhythm. After all, just take a listen to the previous reggae tributes this collective has already done, whether it is The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band or Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side Of The Moon, for example.

You need an excellent feel, both for the original album and its musical spirit, as well as for the reggae music. At the same time both require more than just good musicianship to execute properly.

As on previous occasions, Easy Star All-Stars do it again here, engaging along the way some big musical names that include Macy Gray, Maxi Priest, Steel Pulse, Fishbone, Alex Lifeson (Rush), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), and others, with results that are none less than brilliant.
