With three Juno nominations, millions of streams, and critic accolades all over, Jenn Grant is becoming yet another Canadian music giant. And Grant has not reached that status by sticking to some strict pop formulas, but by forging her way through these days wildly crowded field that is labeled as Canadiana.

Yet the reason Grant started to stand out within a crowd lies not only on her songwriting and vocal qualities but also on the fact that Grant doesn’t stick to any set formulas that are supposed to define musical genres or sub-genres, and she shows that in full force on Queen of the Strait, her latest offering.

And it is all not in big strokes and bold moves, but in small, intricate details, that shine the best light on Grant’s songwriting and her intriguing voice to which Grant and co-producer Joshua Van Tassel (Bahamas, Christine Bougie, Doug Paisley) and longtime collaborator Daniel Ledwell, rightfully put at the centre stage. Simply put, this album provides all the right reasons why Grant got the respect and accolades she got so far.
