Sometimes, artists are involved with a fast-rising band, in this case it is Baltimore’s Tomato Flower. One of the band’s main songwriters Jamison Field Murphy, decided to do a solo project, even if such a band is dubbed future pop.

It could be other musical interests, or it could be a case of songs that couldn’t fit on an album, but whatever the case, if such extracurricular projects are as good as Murphy’s solo album It Has to End, then neither the band, the artist, or the audience need to worry.

In Murphy’s case, it is a question of extensive home recording, from songs he wanted to complete, to a mix of ambient and noise experiments, all of which find their place here. More of the former, less of the latter.

And while the songs in the finished form show that Murphy is a songwriting force to be counted on, which range from psychedelic folk to acoustic Steely Dan, the brief noise/ambient pieces serve as a sort of a brief pause with a purpose.
