SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ISHA – FEEL AT HOME

ISHA

ISHA
FEEL AT HOME
SIDEKICK MUSIC

Dutch queer multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer ISHA releases her debut album, Feel At Home, which encapsulates the ever-changing life at home.

“Bottled” kicks off the record with an off-kilter acoustic and drum production as ISHA encapsulates all the bottled-up feelings and isolation of reality. “Stories” features a funky R&B and jazz production with downtempo vibes as ISHA’s velvety smooth vocals mixes narrative storytelling about a coming-of-age story.

“Me And You” is the standout track on the record as it opens to a lo-fi R&B sound with a hint of funk while exploring chaos and stress in everyday life and seeking help. Shifting gears from everyday chaos is the funky track in “Give Me More.” The track features slick rap verses mixing cohesively with downtempo electronic dance and funk designed to get on the dance floor and dance the stress away.

“Forever Sixteen” perfectly captures the portrait of a 16-year-old growing up into adolescence from a different perspective of identity and discovery featuring alternative pop production of drums and acoustic guitars. “Fast Paced Society” is a relatable track as it blends soulful vocals while delving deep about a literal fast paced society filled with overwhelming senses drifting between space and time.

The titular track “Feel At Home” leans into the retro-funk aesthetics with a hint of jazz as it gives off a new home, new city character energy as the protagonist is set to make his/her mark at the city.

“Won’t Go Back” ends the track featuring an amalgamation of ISHA’s soulful vocals of independence and never looking back featuring soul-jazz production with a hint of funk.

ISHA’s impressive debut record Feel At Home yearns for a sense of belonging whether it’s at home where life is constantly changing or settling into a new city for a fresh start. You’ll definitely want to hear the record either traveling or going through a crisis at home.
