HOLY VOID
ALL WILL BE REVEALED IN TIME
INDEPENDENT
Hailing from Winnipeg, MB, Holy Void is a six-piece alternative rock band. All Will Be Revealed In Time is their second full-length album, following 2019’s Naught, and a previous pair of EP’s dating back to 2015. Over five years in the making, All Will Be Revealed In Time captures a band on the brink of a decade together with their latest release.
Opening with “Too Close To The Sun”, the listener is hit with a mid-tempo, slightly distorted wash of psychedelic chords set atop of driving drums. The track sits comfortably with minimal and subtle changes, yet, you too, as a listener, will be happy to follow with each passing development. Setting the tone as a modern take on both stoner rock and classic psychedelia, “Too Close To The Sun” feels like an odd choice to start any album with, and yet it works here. Continuing with “Dead”, Holy Void springs to life with a haunting track driven by a minimal riff and a bounce in its step reminiscent of Queens Of The Stone Age. Despite being rooted in the flat plains of Manitoba, “Dead” leaves you with the impression that Holy Void are in fact from the southern deserts of California.
All Will Be Revealed In Time establishes Holy Void as an incredibly unique band among the Canadian independent music scene. Their use of instrumentation, particularly violin and cello among an array of guitars elevates the band and along with their use distinctive, almost droning use of vocal harmonies, All Will Be Revealed In Time provides a fresh take on modern psychedelia and harkens back to when alternative rock was happy to be weird. Highlights across the album, in addition to the opening pair of songs, include “Passing”, the instrumental “Golden Lies”, and the doomy “Love”.
All Will Be Revealed In Time is a nine track body of work that captures a band that has confidently found their sound as they double down into a sonic pallet that seems incredibly unique to them. The result is a sophomore album that feels fresh as the band takes risks and experiments with textures, tone, and style.
