SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS – CAUGHT LIGHT

Great Lake Swimmers

GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS
CAUGHT LIGHT
PHEROMONE RECORDINGS/HARBOUR SONGS INC.

Yes, Great Lake Swimmers have been around for a while, and have a slew of recordings under their belt, but that is not the sole reason they are one of the greatest current Canadian music institutions. That can be attributed to the pristine, high-quality output of music that they have come up with so far. Caught Light, the band’s latest LP, is just as great as their previous releases and, even further, certainly ranks among the best they have come up with so far.

It is no wonder that Tony Dekker, the frontman of the musical group, has a passion for photography, as there is always something quite picturesque and vivid about the LP, both in the music and lyrics. He has a talent for creating clear, sonically inspired images in the minds of Great Lake Swimmers’ listening audience. As fans of the Great Lake Swimmers have come to expect from their work, the production and arrangements are crystal clear (impeccable, if you will). This solidifies the band’s latest LP, Caught Light, as another brilliant Great Lake Swimmers album.
