It’s been two years since the last release from Los Angeles-based singer, rocker, and rapper grandson (aka Jordan Benjamin). On his third album, INERTIA, he has plenty to say, delivering 10 politically charged tracks with intensity and a live rock band sound.

The opening track, “BURY YOU,” sets the tone with a punchy guitar riff, and sets the stage for the rest of the album, moving away from the heavy electronic influenced sound of his previous music.

Lead single “BRAINROT” is appropriately named, as it criticizes the negative impact of social media and the internet in general while being energetic and catchy.

“SELF IMMOLATION” takes an almost nu-metal approach, blending heavy instrumentals with thought-provoking lyrics. It’s a balance grandson handles very well throughout the album.

The album tone is reminiscent of the band Rage Against The Machine, with its fusion of high-octane rock and politically fueled rebellion.

Closing track “PULL THE TRIGGER” shifts the mood.  It replaces anger with a more melancholy tone, offering reflective closure to the album.

While INERTIA still blends genres, it’s grandson’s most rock-centered project to date. Fans of that genre will find plenty to love, but others may miss the electronic elements of past releases.

It’s a quick listen at approximately 29 minutes, but the album remains true to grandson’s core: anti-establishment lyrics, introspection, rebellion, and genre-blending intensity. INERTIA is drenched in despair, but it also serves as a call to action and an invitation to become a catalyst for change. This time the message is wrapped in the grit of a live rock band.
