GOLDFINGER
NINE LIVES
BIG NOISE

Goldfinger is back in action, delivering another infectious dose of ska-punk with their aptly titled album, Nine Lives. The album’s name resonates, considering Goldfinger’s remarkable 33-year history since their inception in 1993—a period marked by a more innocent musical landscape heavily influenced by genres such as Mento, Calypso, Jazz, and R&B. This eclectic and vibrant vibe, though less prevalent in today’s mainstream, is their backbone.
Unlike many bands that have evolved or shifted with the times, Goldfinger’s Nine Lives stands out for its authentic ‘90s feel. The album manages to capture that mellow essence often lost over the years, demonstrating that the band’s rebellious punk spirit and infectious jazz undertones remain as compelling and energetic as ever. Goldfinger’s consistency is a testament to their commitment to their sound, and their legacy includes an impressive Guinness World Record for performing 385 shows in a single year – damn!
Key tracks like “Chasing Amy” highlight a star-crossed lovers theme, an absolute stand out for me – I love a love song. While “Untouchable” features reflective lyrics aimed at longtime fans. iann dior adds a distinctive rap element, blending fresh and nostalgic sounds. The introspective mood continues with “John Lennon,” “Dynamite,” and “Killswitch,” yet the album maintains Goldfinger’s signature energy and fun despite its somber undertones.
