It is hard to come by an indie pop or indie rock group that is worth listening to nowadays. Most are generic, bland, irritating, or, worst of all, just downright horrible. Girl Scout is none of these things and well worth your attention. Girl Scout’s newest EP, Headache, is indie pop and indie rock done right. These fascinating songs consist of unforgettable choruses, mesmerizing vocals, an intriguing and lively flair to their music, and electrifying talent instrumentally.

“Desert Island Movies” deftly combines garage rock with power pop, resulting in a fun and rocking good time. During the second verse, the sludgy and gritty guitars go off.’ It feels as if The Kills and Queens Of The Stone Age teamed up to create a ‘killer’ guitar riff. The hard-hitting chorus is guaranteed to have you rocking out. Lead vocalist Emma Jansson’s vocals are brilliant, too, especially during the verses.

“Honey” is a throwback to the 2010s era of indie pop and indie rock and features crisp and punchy guitars, bright and catchy hooks, bittersweet lyrics, and a beautifully soaring and upbeat chorus. This is the type of chorus that other artists or bands wish they wrote. It is immaculately crafted, irresistibly charming, has a stunning atmosphere and features riveting instrumentation. Jansson also showcases some impressive vocal control during the chorus.

“Headache” has an excellent interplay between Jansson’s vocals and the guitars. It might not contain an earworm chorus like the previous two songs did, but its enchanting and dreamy melody more than makes up for it.

“I Just Needed You To Know” deserves to be blasted as loud as possible. Girl Scout shows off their impressive range on this track, too, as they demonstrate they are just as good at creating heavy and thunderous rock songs as they are at creating soft and sweet indie pop songs. Fueled by an explosively hard-rocking and dirty-sounding guitar riff that will be forever etched into your memory, Jansson’s hypnotic vocals, and an electrifyingly infectious chorus, this track is exhilarating from start to finish. It also features some dynamite and gnarly shredding near the song’s end, making it even more stylish and cool.

“I’m So Sorry” closes things off, and it is safe to assume that in the future, this will become the ‘go-to’ song for the band as their last song of the night. It just works perfectly. The main highlight is the repeated line: “I’m so sorry”, as there is just something about the delivery of that line that is so cathartic and overwhelming.

Overall, Girl Scout is a band that you want to keep an eye on. Their latest EP, Headache, is as close to perfect as you can come and offers some of the finest indie pop and indie rock songs of 2024.
