Fruit Bats and their songwriter Eric D. Johnson have been around for a while, and they have been constantly coming up with some of the more sophisticated, elegant, and often subdued folk pop. With it they have been gaining in critical stature if not fully the wider acceptance Johnson and the band deserve.

In that respect, nothing changes with their latest release, A River Running To Your Heart. All the main elements that make Fruit Bats music so appealing remain — Johnon’s almost impeccable songwriting that touches so many musical bases, while at the same time keeping that folk pop base that the band is so good at. This time around though, Johnson adds another production layer that gives Fruit Bats a bit more of a pop veneer, without sacrificing any of the band’s other musical qualities.

Yes, it definitely works, and hopefully it will gain Fruit Bats a wider public acceptance they definitely deserve.
