EVERYTHING EVERYTHING
MOUNTAINHEAD
BMG
Everything Everything has released their latest album, Mountainhead. This comes nearly two years after their previous work, Raw Data Feel. Thankfully, they have offered a catchy and fun album that is a true highlight of their careers.
This album kicks right off with the catchy and creative “Wild Guess”. When they kick off, the vocals are so transfixing in their beauty that it’s hard to even focus on anything but their hypnotic quality. Furthermore, one of the most impressive uses of production fuels the well-written lyrics, enhancing the vocals. If I had to put one thing on this song to describe it, it is simply a nice clue to all that is to come. Though if there is one thing it simply reveals, it is the clever lyrics this LP contains.
Mountainhead‘s lyrics are driven by pain, complemented by some of the most beautiful vocals. Even better, nearly every track here is full of life and unique, with some of the most striking and catchy sounds heard in a recent album. The control here is even better. The use of a variety of styles in each track improves the production and editing level of the vocals, which could otherwise sound annoying or generic.
Quite simply, Mountainhead is a work that is uncontrollable, unforgettable, and all at once majestic. The band’s songwriting is truly at its best, with almost every track having compelling yet drifting vocals. The vocals really feel stretched to their limit—a bit too much. If there was one small point of critique, it would be that the vocals can feel a bit overdone, with the use of possibly mixing and autotuning feeling excessive and wasteful. The entire production here is simply phenomenal. The work seems limitless in its excellence. The vocals here also feel so unique and stylized with the production that they appear almost intertwined. This album consistently outperforms expectations in almost everything that it attempts, and it is full of pure flair and experimentation.
Overall, Mountainhead is a one-of-a-kind album that brings out the best elements of experimentation, such as this can mostly offer.
