BOULDER FIELDS
WITH ALL THE OTHER GHOSTS
LET THERE BE NUMBERS
Edinburgh, Scotland artist Cam Fraser has been around for a while, starting out as a punker with Cateran (supported Nirvana in UK back in 1989), then worked with Borrowed Books, and then decided to do it all himself under the moniker of Boulder Fields.
On his latest album, With All The Other Ghosts, the only punk ghost that possibly shows is a sort of a freewheeling attitude when he subtly combines his Scottish pop leanings with controlled abandon akin to The Woodentops, another British act that hit its stride back in the 80s.
Yet Fraser’s music has so many other elements running through his music, led mainly by his acoustic guitar and subdued instrumental that make it quite personal, strengthened by equally strong lyrical content. Maybe subtly quiet, but absolutely charming music.
