BADLANDS
NOBODY DIES
RITE

Badlands is transboundary Swedish producer, composer, and sound designer Catharina Jaunviksna, who has so far released some quite intriguing albums, and her latest, Nobody Dies, is her fourth.
So, what would that intriguing tag entail here? Some languorous, deep Ambient folk with touches of dream pop along the way with Jaunviksna’s distant-like vocals set in arrangements of echoing guitar, Maggie Björklund’s pedal steel, and Ida Mitchell’s cello create a free-flowing atmosphere, that Jaunviksna’s songwriting gives both structure and perspective. Yet, at the same time, her lyrics go even deeper.
As she notes, “‘Nobody Dies’ is mainly about war, delusion and what it means to be human. It tells the story of a character in a broken apocalyptic landscape who is forced to invent and ascribe new meaning to things in order to endure existence and sow new hope.”
It is, at the same time, both very late night and very deep-thinking music that works on both levels.
