So, where have the Australian mavericks gone so far in their explorations? From all things heavy to the outskirts of microtonal and spiritual jazz, while cramming as many albums as it is humanly possible into a single year (5 in a year and twice at that), with a general count now being somewhere around 27 studio and 56 live albums so far, and something is probably missing in that count.

Yet, it would be almost impossible to find a wrong link there, inventiveness taking the lead every single time. The question then hanging in the air for both the fans and those not so familiar with the band is where will their next project take them next?

Well, in the case of their latest studio album, Phantom Island, it seems to be their vision of what baroque pop would sound like with them playing with a full -blown orchestra, and as is usually the case with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, no holds barred. And if you were expecting them to blow it this time around, forget it, the combination works better than a simple charm—it is great, modern baroque pop with a King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard twist.

So, what is next? A Fleetwood Mac tribute album King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard style?
