After 30 years on the music scene, you can’t really call Scottish giants Mogwai really productive, as they have come up with only 11 albums, including this new one titled The Bad Fire.

And while this may not be productive by the standards of the current music industry that wants to oversaturate the audience with as much music as possible, there are three things that the three previous and the new Mogwai albums show. The first is that the band concentrates on quality rather than quantity, making sure that there isn’t a single loose or unnecessary element present in the music. The second is that all odds are off when you try to set a label on what kind of music Mogwai are playing, as they pick up elements and notes from wherever it suits them, without compromising their signature sound that remains solely their own. And finally, it is always going against the grain of what is current or popular at the moment. When they started out in 1995 it was Britpop, now it could be anything that is officially current. Yet what is current with Mogwai is that the sound of the music they create, and it keeps on working.
