With modern instrumental music that relies on more subtle, gentler sounds there was always a line (a very thin one at that) between being excellent and aural wallpaper. Even the most careful and knowledgeable artists (including some modern classical composers) knowingly or unknowingly, cross that line. Yet there are those somewhat rare exceptions among them that come close to that line but never cross it. One such exception is Jason Dungan, American composer/artist, currently based in Copenhagen.

Dungan has been producing some exquisite instrumental sounds/compositions for a few years now, with Sun Arcs, his previous effort particularly gaining critical acclaim.

It is quite possible though that Weft, his latest release, takes him a step further in refinement of his sound. Taking light cues from the likes of Penguin Cafe Orchestra (both versions) and a selected number of modern classical composers, Dungan weaves a set of delicate, sometimes repeated musical phrases that never cross that not so imaginary line between excellent and mundane.
