Checking out the Bandcamp page of Toronto’s Avi C. Engel, you realize they have a slew of releases, as some of them went under that C. that stands for Clara.

They explain with their motto: “I’m not writing the same song over and over so much as writing one long continuous song that will end when I die.”

Their new 4-song EP, Bestiary, amply proves that motto, with four languorous deep explorations of how far dark and melancholic sounds can go, continuing Engel’s stories without disrupting the flow of music and thought.

No monotony or boredom, though, as the key lies in the tonal and lyrical nuances Engel explores with voice, and some sparse, but very diverse, background sounds.

It just might be one long song that Engel mentions, but it is a free-flowing, nuanced one, just like our daily lives may be.
