CHARLIE KAPLAN
ETERNAL REPEATER
GLAMOUR GOWNS RECORDS
Charlie Kaplan is one of those artists that leads a double music life. He plays bass for Office Culture, and has released a series of singles and three solo albums, the latest of which is Eternal Repeater.
Kaplan seemingly doesn’t like to complicate things, something that can often be quite deceiving, as there is a canyon-sized gap between simple and simplistic. Yet, on Eternal Repeater, things are neither. Kaplan has developed that clean detailed songwriting that makes his music tick exactly as it should.
There is an easy-flowing line through his songs, where Kaplan uses equally clean arrangements to get his musical points across with songs like βEdie Got Awayβ and βCloudburstβ playing as counterpoints. The first has those clean and lean guitar lines with an easy beat, and the latter has subtle changes making it more complex than three progressive bands wouldn’t be able to muster on a whole album.
Eternal Repeater is one of those albums that unfolds its charms the more you play it.
