THE JINS RELEASE RAW AND REFLECTIVE NEW SINGLE “CRUTCH”
604 RECORDS
Vancouver’s alt-rock trio The Jins release their compelling new single “Crutch” today via 604 Records. Showcasing the band’s evolution since their 2023 LP It’s a Life, “Crutch” offers a fresh take on alternative rock that’s both nostalgic and forward-thinking, solidifying their place in the modern rock landscape.
The band comments on the fresh new single, saying, “‘Crutch’ is about the inner monologue of someone plagued by feelings of misguided love, and haunted by thoughts of a person they could never possess. This song has become an anchor to our live performances over the past 3 years, and we really wanted to make a professional recording of it, while still staying true to how it sounds live. With the help of Dave Genn, who produced our last two albums, and legendary mixer Adam Kasper, we managed to take this song from stage to studio. We really wanted the song to have a roaring and unrelenting garage rock beat and I think we managed to accomplish that. After 3 years we are really stoked to share ‘Crutch’ in its final form.” ~The Jins
On “Crutch,” The Jins confront the complexities of reliance and the quest for self-understanding. The track channels the raw authenticity of ’90s alternative rock, with blistering guitar work and pounding rhythms that serve as a backdrop for lyrics delving into personal struggle and realization.
Produced in Vancouver with Dave Genn (54-40) and mixed by Adam Kasper (Nirvana), “Crutch” sees The Jins diving deep into themes of reliance and personal growth. The track melds grunge-infused guitar riffs with compelling lyricism, echoing the raw authenticity of ’90s alternative rock while injecting their unique modern edge.
The Jins have honed their sound over eight years, adding dimension to their crunched-up alt-rock approach. As Under the Radar Magazine notes, they “strike a sharp balance of alt-rock aesthetics and pop songwriting, with both gnarled instrumentation and catchy hooks on full display.”
