SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: HANNAH MOHAN – TIME IS A WALNUT

Hannah Mohan

HANNAH MOHAN
TIME IS A WALNUT
EGGHUNT RECORDS

Formally, Time Is A Walnut is Hannah Mohan’s solo debut, but Mohan has already created quite a buzz while she was fronting And The Kids for some ten years or so.

That buzz was based both on Mohan’s delicate songwriting and some distinctive vocal capabilities, both evident in abundance on this album. But Mohan is not just solely relying on what she has created before, as her songwriting seems to have grown even further, without relying solely on what some might see (hear) as singer songwriter ‘tricks’ adding some intricate, imaginative arrangements and a hefty dose of both indie rock and bedroom pop sensibilities that make her music here go beyond the usual genre categorization.

At the same time, her vocals seem to have gained an additional dose of confidence that makes the songs here and the album as a whole something of a compulsory repeated listening experience.
