SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: HOLLOW TWIN – DANCING WITH MATCHES

Hollow Twin

HOLLOW TWIN
DANCING WITH MATCHES
INDEPENDENT

For many indie bands and artists trying to forge their own path it is an uphill battle to find the space to be properly heard by a wider audience, no matter what the quality of their music is like.

In that respect, Vancouver’s Hollow Twin squarely fall within that group. Even they have a series of independent releases starting from 2016, up to their latest album Dancing With Matches, it has been hard to catch a true break, even with the support of Creative BC, The Province of BC, and the Canada Council For The Arts.

Yet, the band and its driving force singer-songwriter/vocalist/manager Becky Wosk soldier on, this latest album being the result. With a re-vamped lineup, Wosk and the band seem to have fully refined their sound that takes their mix of late 60s, early 70s pop rock and give it some sort of a new wave touch-up that sounds as current as it should, with Wosk’s lyrics and vocals leading the way.

It is one of those albums that keeps on growing on you with every new listen.
