BOB VYLAN
HUMBLE AS THE SUN
GHOST THEATRE
Bob Vylan has released his latest album, Humble As The Sun. This comes after his critical and commercial success, Bob Vylan Presents The Price of Life. Humble As The Sun has compelling lyrics and production, paired with phenomenal vocals at every turn, making it one of the best albums this year.
The first track here, βHumble As The Sunβ, is a brilliant opening filled with quick, thought-provoking lyrics and hypnotising production. Even better, this track feels carefully detailed. The singing is just breathtaking; it’s forceful and loaded with variety and emotion. The production mesmerises, imbuing each word with an unforgettable impact. Each lyric here has an intended purpose and speaks volumes while keeping the track moving.
This is an album that runs rapidly, with quick and unique quotes that burst with creativity and thought. I can best characterise it as a work brimming with a multitude of ideas and concepts. While one track may delve into one topic, the other track is completely different. Furthermore, this is not an easy album to quickly put on and enjoy. It is filled with moments designed to provoke thought. This album delivers its intentions very well, only making a few production slip-ups along the way. While the production is generally tremendous, it does feel a tad phoned in little areas.
Humble As The Sun is a commanding work that speaks to so much and never lets go of that. The vocals are striking, and never let the listener forget the point. The production is usually quite fantastic, bursting with so much energy and allowing every part of this album to work radiantly. This album’s variety is a magnificent element. Each track feels like it has a different style, and this usually works shiningly, making the album feel so big in scope and impactful all at once.
Overall, Humble As The Sun is possibly Vylan’s masterpiece, with consistently top-notch production and strong vocal and songwriting abilities that make the general work here another brilliant new chapter in his discography.
