LOCAL NATIVES
BUT I’LL WAIT FOR YOU
LOMA VISTA RECORDINGS
But I’ll Wait For You is the latest album by indie rock band Local Natives. It is a companion piece to their 2023 album Time Will Wait For No One.
The vocal harmonies are stunning, and there are some pretty beautiful choruses, with the mesmerizing and comforting harmonies of “Alpharetta” and “As Soon As You Arrive” and the hauntingly memorable chorus of “Throw It In The Fire” being the main highlights. Some of the vocal harmonies from this record are among the best of the year. They are electrifying and a blast to listen to.
But I’ll Wait For You suffers from formulaic songwriting and predictable and repetitive instrumentation, causing the record to be quite dull, lacking in variety, very one-note and often a snoozefest. You will most likely skip several tracks as they get boring quickly. Like many indie rock records, But I’ll Wait For You is too generic and does not really do much of anything new or noteworthy to stand out. Occasionally, this is not the case, with the most notable example being “Walk Before You Run”.
Overall, But I’ll Wait For You is a very average record and a drop down in quality from their last album. The album is only worthwhile if you want to hear some fantastic vocal harmonies. Other than that, everything else is lacking.
