ROYAL TUSK
ALTRUISTIC
MNRK MUSIC GROUP

Alberta’s rock trio Royal Tusk brings us their third full-length, self-produced album entitled Altruistic. Guitarist Quinn Cyrankiewicz, bassist Sandy MacKinnon, and vocalist Daniel Carriere spent nearly a year writing the album. Their studio time was derailed when Carriere spent a yearlong battle recovering from a blood clot in his lung. Luckily, through the band’s resilience, they were able to create a very well done, powerful rock album.
The first single “All My Life” was a great indication of what the album had in store for us: powerful lyrics with an emotional delivery, great guitar riffs, and grit. Being familiar with their previous albums, I found this song to be heavy and more assertive, and angrier than their previous work, and it was a pleasant surprise. It offered a great hint at what to expect from the rest of this album.
“Here On Out” offers a great display of every member’s talent from the powerful riffs to the catchy chorus. A very well-rounded song and deserves plenty of radio air play.
The track listing makes this album flow really well when listening from beginning to end. Starting with the guitar-driven “Fire In Your Veins” and ending with the slower, quieter song “Something Like The Truth”.
The amount of blood, sweat, and tears put into this album can’t be ignored. I honestly believe that these tenacious musicians have perfected their craft with Altruistic. This is an album they can definitely be proud of, and you owe it to yourself to give it a listen.
