Robert Finley
Black Bayou
Easy Eye Sound
There are so few of those old-fashioned soul-roots artists around that whenever one of them releases an album you simply have to go out and grab it.
That is exactly what needs to be done with Black Bayou, the latest (fourth) release by Robert Finley, Louisiana’s exponent of that pure southern soul/blues/roots music, that Dan Auerbach and his Easy Eye Records were good enough to put out.
And it is all good, practically perfect stuff, something that Stax Records used to put out every week in its prime. Incredible and tight rhythm section, some nifty guitars and keyboards, brass where needed, and that well-aged Finley’s vocals leading the way as if Albert King with Booker T. & The MGβs are back at it again, but this time around Robert Finley does that sound some excellent justice, and life is all good again. At least for a while.
