PR people often plug their artists’ new releases by comparing them to some big or well-known names, for those artists only to fall a bit, or a bit shorter to those they are compared with.

Now, Mare Berger and her latest album Dreaming Blue is being compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Judee Sill. Initially, those might sound like lofty comparisons, but listening to the album you realize that they are not off the mark at all.

Berger, who actually started playing piano at the age of three and has an M.A. degree in composition and jazz arranging, goes on to show what wonders such a high level of education can bring to your music.

Yet, education is just not the whole story. Berger obviously has more ample talent as a songwriter, pianist and vocalist to come up with some exceedingly complex and intricate music that can actually be compared to the likes of Mitchell and Sill, coming with such a joy of an album that is Dreaming Blue.
