After 15 years on the scene, sticking to your guns by remaining within a genre (in this case roots, Americana/Canadian), you might expect an artist or a band to show the signs of getting tired, or being stuck in a rut. Vancouver’s The Matinee played so many shows in those 15 years that they might have gotten tired of touring, but judging by their latest album Change of Scene, they certainly have not gotten tired of songwriting, playing and recording new music.

They surely are sticking to their roots guns, but they have not lost either their touch, songwriting and playing ability, or élan to do it, and it shows throughout this warm and cozy album.

All the touring has simply just tightened their sound a step further, with their songwriting touching all the right bases for the fans of the sound, where you can name everybody from The Band to Drive-By Truckers, yet still sounding like – The Matinee.
