As a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Amanda Shires was and still is one of the stalwarts on the roots/americana music scene for all the right reasons. Her musicianship, singing, and songwriting stand out, but so did that of the late pianist and singer Bobbie Nelson who passed away in March 2022.
Luckily, before Nelson’s premature departure, the two artists were able to collaborate on Loving You, a series of mostly covers of the songs both of them cherished throughout years.
From something so classic like “Summertime”, to “Always on My Mind”, also a classic, often championed by Nelson’s younger Willie. It is an intimate record dominated by vocals, piano, and subtle arrangements with a lot of emotional involvements from both artists doing songs they both cherished through their careers. Certainly, one for the late hours.
