KOLB
POWER OF THOUGHT
RAMP LOCAL
Another singer-songwriter, another artist located in Brooklyn that doesn’t really fit into the strict confines of what a singer-songwriter should sound like.
His second outing, an EP titled Power of Thought is a shift from his initial album Tyrannical Vibes.
While his debut was a home-recorded catch pop affair, the current EP is a live in the studio album that brings in definite songwriting complexity and incredibly tight playing from Kolb and the other six musicians he gathered for the occasion.
Still, the one constant is Kolb’s operatic-like falsetto that ties the whole affair together.
At times, the music sounds like live Steely Dan returning to its more pop days with Kolb’s falsetto at the forefront. Catchy, modern, jazz-rock if you really need a strict definition for this not easily classifiable music that sounds great, no matter what.
