There are so many artists these days that are working in the Americana/roots/country rock domain, that it is often hard to distinguish between them, no matter how good and assured their music is.

What distinguishes those that are excellent from those that are ‘just’ very good is the character and individuality of their music, and that is where LA singer-songwriter GracieHorse fits in (comfortably) with her latest album, aptly titled L.A. Shit.

As with all artists that stand out in Americana music, the key is not only in quality songwriting, but how good a storyteller that artist is, and GracieHorse is obviously an excellent storyteller, combining good melodies with some brilliant storytelling, making both her music and lyrics stand out.

She aptly explains her concept behind this album: “For my album L.A. Shit I thought the image of soaking in a bath was a good metaphor for the “soup” I was soaking in at the time...I could let my ideas float around aimlessly and I could hear songs in my head play out uninterrupted. For several years, that’s about the only time I had to hear that music.”

Simply put, excellent.
