SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE SLOW READERS CLUB – KNOWLEDGE FREEDOM POWER

It is not very often that you come across an album that features great song after great song with no skips. The Slow Readers Club’s latest album, Knowledge Freedom Power, is the rare exception.

Every song on the album is perfect. The masterful combination of synth-pop, alternative rock, indie rock and post-punk makes this album really stand out. Knowledge Freedom Power captures the synth-pop and new wave sound of the 80s and makes it fresh, groovy and highly original. There are many hypnotic and mesmerizing synth sounds featured on the album, especially with “Lay Your Troubles On Me” and “Modernise”.

These interesting synth sounds make a great team with electrifying guitars. “Seconds Out” offers the best mixture of the two with its upbeat and bright synth sound and guitar style that has a hint of The Killers.

Aaron Starkie’s vocals are powerful, booming, and commanding. “Forget About Me”, and “Afterlife” showcases his vocal talents the best. Starkie shines the most in the choruses, as each one is beautiful.

“Seconds Out” and “Forget About Me” are two of the best tracks from an album loaded with exceptional songs. The latter, in particular, has a simple but very catchy and cool chorus and a synth sound that makes you think of the score for Stranger Things. Lyrically it might not be the best song on the album, but it definitely has the best production.

Knowledge Freedom Power is a creative and entertaining album with not a single bad song.
