SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: WILLIE NELSON – I DON’T KNOW A THING ABOUT LOVE

Williie Nelson

Willie Nelson
I Don’t Know A Thing About Love
Legacy Recordings

Some artists can only do a good job with their own songs. Others work much better when they interpret somebody else’s material. Yet, when you have a true legend like Willie Nelson, it really doesn’t matter whether he is interpreting his own songs or somebody else’s. The result is always the same – greatness, even when he tackles something that might be considered as a mundane song.

In that respect, nothing new to report about Nelson’s new recording, I Don’t Know A Thing About Love, where the master tackles the songs of Harlan Howard, who defined a great country song as “three chords and the truth.”

Simply, Nelson takes those three chords, and the truth Howard speaks about and adds that inimitable voice of his, that just gives Howard songs that extra special touch. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing more needed, anyway.
