Laure Briard
Ne Pas Trop Rester Bleue
Midnight Special Records
Usually, when record labels sign a new artist, they come out with some serious hype, comparing the new artists to some big, or cult names to boot.
So, when signing singer songwriter Laure Briard, Midnight Special compared her to Françoise Hardy, Margo Guryan, Aldous Harding, and Vashti Bunyan. Hype?
Not if you take a good listen to Briard’s latest album, Ne pas trop rester bleue. Here, Briard, who actually both writes and sings songs in French, English, and Portuguese, not only emulates any and all of the above-mentioned artists but is able toΒ tie them all up into one not only neat, but quite delicious musical package.
Briard doesn’t simply jump from a style to style, but is able to bring quite a few of them together so seamlessly, often within a single song. It all ends up being sophisticated pop of the highest order, something only the rarified few artists have been able to do. Excellent!
