SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE – THE FUTURE IS YOUR PAST

The Brian Jonestown Massacre

The Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Future Is Your Past
A Recordings

When you are releasing your 20th album, you are practically becoming an institution. Maybe Anton Newcombe, The Brian Jonestown Massacre main man is not exactly somebody who likes what the term institution brings along, but himself and his band have become a sort of forebearers of modern psychedelia.

The band’s latest, The Future Is Your Past, just confirms that Newcombe and his band have turned from just a band inspired by bygone sound into a force that actually tries and succeeds to innovate a sound. Along with that, Newcombe was always socially and politically conscious, something that has almost always been reflected in his lyrics.

Here, The Brian Jonestown Massacre sound like a band at their most potent, both musically and lyrically, something that is so damn hard to do on your 20th album, but BJM did it anyway.
