Light Moves Around You
Independent
On paper, the combination of Kristin Slipp and Cole Kamen-Green, aka Mmeadows, can sound like a strange combination. After all, Slipp is a member of avant-garde pop band Dirty Projectors, and Green has worked with groups of artists from Beyoncé, Lorde, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, to Laurie Anderson among others.
Yet, their debut album Light Moves Around You, ‘lightly’ manages to combine the more left-field parts of Dirty Projectors and Laurie Anderson to the pop side of their equation that includes Beyoncé, Styles and Swift.
Some call this progressive pop, and actually the music Mmeadows create is both progressive and pop, since the duo takes the pop base and its key formulas and adds to it elements that supposedly shouldn’t be there but, in their hands, easily gel and actually divert the pop element and transforms it into something that is at the same time same and different.
In most cases, such a combination is really hard to do, but Slipp and Green seem to have both the talent and experience to do it with ease.
