SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: GRIM STREAKER – GIRL MINORITY EP

Grim Streaker

Grim Streaker
Girl Minority EP
Independent

They have been playing the New York City/Brooklyn scene for the past year, and here it is, the debut EP from Grim Streaker. They released a debut single, “Guts”, earlier in the year but here they have presented a four track EP. Like their name, this is a band with a purpose. This debut EP, Girl Minority, is about ten minutes of intense energy. Buckle up your seat-belt and enjoy the ride.

Grim Streaker is a five piece band based out of Brooklyn. The band is comprised of Singer Amelia Bushell, guitarists Dan Peskin and Micah Weisberg, bassist Bill Dvorak and drummer Piyal Basu, and collectively they produce a sound that is entirely their own. Bishell’s vocals are reminiscent of the old and original punk days, but she has her own style and her own spin on things. Listen to her vocals in “Freak Child”, chilling at times. t is not so much what she is saying, but how she screams it.

Ayad Al Adhamy and Joel Witenberg (Passion Pit, Cold Fronts, Surf Rock is Dead) have done a great job engineering and mixing the EP, and maintain the band’s electric, hard driving edge.  This is pure noise, but with a beat.

If you are a fan of the old punk scene, take your pick, L.A., New York or London, then you will love this EP. Work out your aggression and move your body at the same time. This is a tight, talented band, fronted by a ball of energy. This is a band that is aware of music history and who are determined to pave their own way in the future, and I have no doubt they will succeed.

Aaron Badgley
Born and raised in Whitby, Aaron discovered music through his love of The Beatles. This led to a career in radio, writing for various publications, and ultimately a radio show about The Beatles (Beatles Universe), which ran for over four years. When not immersed in music, Aaron enjoys spending time with the loves of his life -- his wife Andrea, and daughters Emily and Linda (all of whom have an intense love of music too).
