Beartooth is back with their sixth studio album, their first with Fearless Records, Pure Ecstasy. Frontman Caleb Shomo has no doubt written the most unashamed and open record Beartooth has done yet. He is making the transition from self-loathing to self-love, while bringing the classic, crushing Beartooth sound.

The opener and title of the album, “Pure Ecstasy,” is a recount of where he’s been to where he is right now. Beginning with a deep breath, he then opens the door to show the world who he really is at this point in his journey. Shomo’s forceful vocals are right in line with the message he is sending, “I’m not the battle I am the war.”

“Lose You to Find Me” is knowing that you can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. If you let the past dwell in your head, you’ll never move on to a better version of yourself. You have to let go of the old you to welcome the new you. The track has the elements of an 80s hair band song, including 80s guitar solo.

The final track, “I Made It,” is another 80s sounding song, a little more of a feel-good song, about deciding that you are going to embrace yourself and who you are, and if you do the work to get from where you used to be, you can say you made it to the other side. It’s about wanting it, saying it and believing it will happen.

I love that this new Beartooth release is yet another chapter of Caleb Shomo learning to love himself.
