DENT MAY
THE BIG ONE
CARPARK RECORDS

Dent May has been around for a while and has garnered quite a following among the fans of all things melodic in rock with his mostly bedroom pop take on power pop – less power and more melody and harmony, to be precise.
On his seventh album, The Big One, all those parameters are still intact with that big one of the title signifying one (slight?) change – he switches his bedroom sound for a full studio outing. Still, he doesn’t go for any available studio excesses that some might have expected but just a slight enrichment of his signature sound that he thought might present his main idea here – what a melodic night out on town might present – all the good and not so good things it can bring.
Yet, with all his penchant for great melodies and detailed but subtle arrangements, another May staple is still present here – an optimistic outlook that rides along with any melancholic touches you can encounter at night.
