Donovan Woods is one of those singer-songwriters who have a strong fan base, based much more on his excellent songwriting and subtle, hushed vocals rather than any hype or PR, as Woods is one of those artists who decided to go as independent as he can.
Yet many of those fans might ask why Woods, as an ‘album man,’ has decided to release Squander Your Gifts just as a 5-song EP. The reason is at the same time simple and quite sad—Woods has created this EP as a dedication to his friend and writing partner, Abe Stoklasa, who passed away in 2023.
As far as the songs themselves go, for the fans, there should be no surprises, because they got used to the high quality of Woods’ songwriting and delivery. What they might not expect is the emotional intensity with which Woods packs the songs here, making this EP a must.
