ALICE COSTELLOE
MOVE ON WITH THE YEAR
MOSHI MOSHI RECORDS

As is the case sometimes with solo debut albums, the key just might lie with that solo tag. It is usually a case of an artist that has already been in a band or has worked undercover, so to speak.
Nothing undercover with a debut album here, as Alice Costelloe’s debut solo album Move On With The Year belongs to a former singer of Big Deal and is familiar with everybody that is familiar with the band.
So, what goes on here? Well, Costelloe and her producer Mike Lindsay have gone for a tinkering sound of fragile art pop where mellotrons and flute accompany Costelloe’s equally fragile melodies and sensitive lyrics. It is a modern take on British artists anywhere between Lesley Duncan and Kate Bush, with less prog and more gentle melodies and subtle personal lyrics that most listeners would be able to relate to.
The fact that Costelloe has previous music experience clearly shows as the music she presents on her solo debut has substance that deserves to be heard.
