SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: WARFIELD – DEATHROCK DEVOTIONALS

Warfield

WARFIELD
DEATHROCK DEVOTIONALS
BLACK HEATHERS/CLEOPATRA RECORDS

Justin Warfield of She Wants Revenge has released Deathrock Devotionals, a focused exploration of early Los Angeles deathrock and post-punk. The album captures the authentic electric atmosphere of the 1980s Los Angeles underground, featuring strong goth energy and synth.

Singles like “All The Fun” and “Only Shadows” showcase strong storytelling and a distinct sepia feel. While this style may not appeal to everyone right away, the album benefits from a few repeated listens in the correct atmosphere. Themes of time, regret, and mortality are prominent and will resonate with certain listeners, and probably you as well, if you yearn for that bygone era.

This album leans more toward goth than punk, so keep your expectations there. It’s a lullaby for insomniacs, so if you enjoy darker sounds and synthesizers, you’ll find this a powerful and meaningful experience.

About the Author
Victoria Love-Rainbow
I am an avid connoisseur of music experiences but never had the courage to share them until now. My inspiration comes from the '90s alternative and punk rock music I grew up listening to. Bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, Eve 6 and Everclear shaped my worldview and taste in music. I want to capture some of their energy and spirit in my stories. Thanks for checking out my bio and my work!
